Amber on the ball for romp over Red
LAST year's A reserve premiers, Works Amber, had a massive 11-1 win over Works Red, showing that they again will be a contender for this year's trophy.
Peter Grimes, Tracy Saltmarsh, Adam Gurr Peter Fraser and Ivor O'Connor were all winners for Amber.
The Green Horns went to the top of the ladder with a 7-5 win over Works Green. Peter Donati was the only winner, with all other games drawn.
Works Navy got off the bottom of the ladder, winning 7-5 over Launceston RSL White. John Fordham, Ray Skinner and Alan Legge were winners for Navy, Denis Collins and Adrian White won for the RSL team.
In A grade, Works Gold moved to third on the ladder with a 3-1 win over Works Blue. Trevor and Steve Leary along with Lee Morcom won for Gold. Rolf Stevenson was the only winner for Blue.
The Devils and Exeter RSL played a 2-2 draw. The Rainbow brothers, Andrew and Josh, won for the Devils.
Exeter's Gary Bakker continued his winning streak retaining top spot on the player rankings. Exeter's Ben Swain, playing his first match for the season, beat Scott Kopriva in a close match, Kopriva potting the pink in the first frame for a winning score, only to go in off the centre pocket. Swain potted the pink and black to win that frame, then went on to win the third frame.
The Raiders and Black also played a 2-2 draw. Barry Glover and Keith Coomber won for the Raiders, David Bates and Peter Wallace won for Black.

Works Gold 3 defeated Works Blue 1, Lee Morcom (40) defeated Hans Georgieff (50) 2-1, Trevor Leary (28) defeated Peter Donati (8) 2-1, Steve Leary (22) defeated John Stevenson (34) 2-0, John Fraser (14) lost to Rolf Stevenson (32) 0-2.
The Flaming Devils 2 drew with Exeter RSL 2 , Andrew Rainbow (34) defeated Adam Bindoff (38) 2-1, Scott Kopriva (32) lost to en Swain (24) 1-2, Josh Rainbow (44) defeated Rex Swain (16) 2-1, Heath Rainbow (34) lost to Garry Bakker (22) 0-2.
Raiders 2 drew with Works Black 2, Alan Armitage (44) lost to David Bates (-18) 1-2, Lionel Young (28) lost to Peter Wallace (42) 1-2, Barry Glover (42) defeated Andrew Saltmarsh (28) 2-0, Keith Coomber (30) defeated Bruce Lockley (22) 2-0.

Launceston avenges loss, pockets title
LAUNCESTON avenged an agonising semi-final loss to Hobart to claim the state eightball B grade championship.
Held at the Launceston Workers Club at the weekend, the event saw six teams competing from across the state for the title.
After the round robin stage, the Hobart eightball association topped the ladder and went on to defeat the host 13-12 in the deciding frame of the semi.
Meanwhile, the Southern Tasmanian Eightball Association defeated Devonport 13-9.
Launceston hit back in the preliminary final, defeating STEA 13-9 and completed a Southern double in the grand final with a comfortable final victory to claim the title.

Devils on top after tight victory
THE Flaming Devils went to the top of the Northern snooker competition A Grade ladder with a close-fought win over the Raiders on Thursday night.
After wins from Andrew (2-1) and Josh Rainbow (2-0), the result came down to the final match between Devils, Shane Franklin and veteran Lionel Young for the Raiders.
Franklin won 2-1 to give the Devils four points and top spot on the ladder. Keith Coomber won for the Raiders.

Higgins wins 20th state title
HOBART'S Les Higgins continued his amazing record in the sport of billiards by winning the 2011 state championship in Hobart yesterday.
Higgins notched up his 20th Tasmanian billiards championship by beating Launceston's David Bates in the three-hour final 831 to 436 at the Claremont RSL club.

Hobart's Les Higgins wins his 20th State Billiards Title, played at the Claremont RSL on June 4th and 5th, Higgins defeated Launceston player David Bates in the final, Bates the 2011 Northern Champion struggled to put any real breaks together in the final, while Higgins playing on his home table knocked in breaks of 123, 94 and 71 in the final to win the title 831 - 436

Battle hots up for state billiards title
THE Tasmanian billiards championship to be played at the Claremont RSL Club at the weekend is shaping up as the most hotly contested event on the state calendar for several years.
The finalists from last year, champion Les Higgins, of Hobart, and runner-up, Graeme Pickett, are seeded number 1 and 2, and between them have won the championship 23 times. Higgins 19 and Pickett 4.

Works Black humbles premier
WORKS Black was this week's big winner, defeating reigning premier Exeter RSL Black 3-1 in their A grade interclub snooker match at the Workers Club.
Works Black, the minor premier last year, has had a slow start to the 2011 season, scoring just eight points from five matches.

Bates on song with Northern team in shield win
THE Northern team won the Doug Salter Shield, 50-up billiards, at the Penguin Club.
The team of David Bates, Peter Donati, Roydyn Bishop, Adrian White, Terry Adams and Gary Bjarnoe- Elliott won 18 matches, holding out North-West (15) and Southern (three).
Bates continued his strong billiards season by being named the player of the tournament and scoring the highest break of 54, just five short of the maximum break in a 50-up billiard match.
Bates, Adams and Bjarnoe-Elliott won all four matches played, Joe Bonnici was the standout North-West player, winning four, and South's Steve Cowie won two.

Raiders pocket another big scalp
WORKS Raiders took another scalp this week, beating high profile RSL Grey in the 2011 A-grade interclub snooker roster.
Raiders won 3-1, with Barry Glover, Keith Coomber and Alan Armitage winning against former state players Robin McEnnulty, Terry Adams and Roydyn Bishop.
Exeter Black and Works Blue both scored their first wins, against Works Gold and Works Black respectively.
