Higgins wins 20th state title
HOBART'S Les Higgins continued his amazing record in the sport of billiards by winning the 2011 state championship in Hobart yesterday.
Higgins notched up his 20th Tasmanian billiards championship by beating Launceston's David Bates in the three-hour final 831 to 436 at the Claremont RSL club.
Higgins defeated Hobart opponent Luke Webb in his semi-final 654 to 410.
Bates overcame fellow Launceston player Graeme Pickett 524 to 489.
Northern player Peter Donati took out the consolation plate final, beating the North- West's Geoff Lehman 365 to 150.
Higgins, 47, has won 86 championships, including three Australian juniors, two Oceania championships, 20 Tasmanian billiards championships, 16 Tasmanian snooker championships, 26 Southern Tasmanian snooker championships and 19 Southern Tasmanian billiards championships.
