Bates wins two titles
DAVID Bates cleaned up at Exeter at the weekend with the Northern billiards champion winning the club's billiards event, surprising himself to also claim the eightball title.
A total of 32 players entered eightball, 16 in snooker and 10 in the billiards to create an excellent tournament at the Exeter Social Club, with the proceeds used for re-covering the club's billiards tables.
Bates pocketed most of the prizemoney when he beat Andrew Rainbow 2-1 in the eightball final, he also beat Josh Rainbow in the handicap billiards final, Bates made a 107 break in the semi-final.
Bruce Lockley won the snooker event, beating Exeter player Gary Bakker in the final.
INTERCLUB BILLIARDS
Works Black won the much-debated catch-up match at Works on Monday, defeating Works Green 3-1.
David Bates and Bruce Lockley were again the winners, joined by Scott Kopriva who ended the winning streak of Green's George Zammit, who had won six straight matches.
Dean Wilson was the only winner for the Green team.
With the matches now up to date, four teams _ Works Blue, (top on percentage), Works Gold, Works Black, RSL White _ share top place on 25 points, with Devils and Raiders both on 22 points.
Last week's matches saw Works Gold get its season back on track with a 3-1 win over Works Green, the Stevenson brothers John and Rolf as well as Steve Leary were its winners, Greens George Zammit kept his unbeaten season alive.
Launceston RSL White also won 3-1 against Works Navy, Dennis Collins Adrian White and Greg Williams won for the RSL, Ben Conrades was Navy's only winner.
All other matches were 2-2 draws, Blues big guns, Graeme Pickett and Peter Donati were winners in their match against the Raiders, Keith Coomber and Lionel Young won for the Raiders.
Works Red held the Devils to a draw, Steve Andjelkovic and Peter Seaman won for Red, Heath and Andrew Rainbow scored for the Devils.
Works Blacks David Bates and Bruce Lockley won their matches, Rex Swain and Derek Peart evened the score for the Exeter Social Club.
