Devils, Black on top
DEVILS and Works Black both won 3-1, to share the top rung on the Northern A grade ladder as the Raiders lost to Blue and could fall out of the top four if Gold wins this week. Devils beat RSL Grey 3-1, with the Rainbows, Heath, Andrew and Josh all winning 2-0 for the Devils. Paul Zoon (2-0) was Grey's only winner.
Black defeated Exeter by the same margin with Peter Wallace (2-0), Rodney Martin (2-0) and Bruce Lockley (2-1) winning for Black. Ben Swain (2-1) was Exeter's sole winner.
Works Blue caused the upset of the week beating the ladder leading Raiders 3-1. Peter Donati (2-1), Rolf Stevenson (2-1) and Hans Georgieff (2-0) won for the Blue team, while Alan Armitage (2-1) won for the Raiders.
The Raiders dropped from top to fourth and with this week's bye and their final match against the Devils could end up out of the finals, a scenario not envisaged last week.
Exeter, last year's premier, and Launceston RSL Grey cannot make the finals and will play at Exeter this week with the loser likely to hold the wooden spoon.
In A reserve, Exeter defeated Works Navy, 10-2, to make a late run for the finals. John Waters, Derek Peart, Chris Reid and Greg Reid all won 2-0.
The competition's new team, The Green Horns, consolidated a top two finish with an 8-4 win against Works Red. Zane Brown and Heath Rainbow both won 2-0.
Amber moved back to third winning 7-5 against RSL White.
