Northern Interclub Snooker
The Tasmanian Snooker Championship, played at the Ulverstone RSL Club this weekend, with the finals on August 25/26, again promises to be a weekend of first class snooker. Defending Champion Les Higgins leads the very strong southern contingent, including Gregg Watts, Luke Webb, Brendan Milburn and Steve Carroll and Jeremy Cowie.
If Northwest Champion, Cale Barrett was to win he would become the youngest ever winner, at sixteen years and four months old, the other North West players are Callam Bissett, Gerrad Wicks, Bob Boucher and Geoff Lehman.
Northern Champion Graeme Pickett, twice State Champion and runner up last year, will be joined at the event by Gary Bjarnoe Elliott, Keith Coomber and Bruce Lockley.
Play gets underway at 10 am on Saturday with non stop snooker on three tables at the Ulverston RSL Club, through until 3.30 on Sunday afternoon
Interclub Snooker
Works Green have replaced Works Red as the ladder leader in A Reserve competition, Green had a 6 all draw with RSL White, G Perry and Zane Brown won for Green, Lee Morcom and Dennis Collins were RSL’s winners.
Works Red had a disastrous night, losing 3-9 to Works Amber, Peter Fraser, John Saggers, Peter Grimes and Ethan Brown all won for Amber, Keith Coomber was Red’s only winner.
Works Navy, had an 8-4 win over Exeter Green, at Exeter, Navy’s Warren Hayes and Philip Page were the only winners on the night.
In “A Grade” Raiders continued their winning way beating Exeter 3-1, Lionel Young, Barry Glover and Keith Coomber won for the Raiders, Dean Wilson scored for Exeter.
Works Gold beat Works Blue 3-1, Gary Bjarnoe-Elliott, John Fraser and Ted Mountney won for Gold, Hans Georgieff continued his good season winning for Blue.
Launceston RSL Grey had last week’s bye.

Northern Interclub Snooker
Northern Tasmanian Snooker Champion, Graeme Pickett, has retained his title, beating
David Bates 5 frames to 3 in the final at the Works Club on Saturday afternoon. Pickett has now won 15 Northern Snooker Championships together with 14 Northern Billiards Championships. Pickett beat Gary Bjarnoe-Elliott is the semi-final and Terry Adams in his Qarter final. Bates, the current Northern Billiards Champion, beat Peter Donati in his semi-final and John Fraser in the Quarters. Earlier Bjarnoe Elliott beat Rolf Stevenson and Donati beat Robin McEnnulty in their quarter final matches.
Les Higgins won the Southern Tasmanian Championship, beating Gregg Watt 5-3 in the Southern final, over the weekend. Higgins made an outstanding 129 break.
In the North West, 16 year old Cale Barrett, from Penguin, defeated Callan Bissett, six frames to nil, to become the youngest ever Costal Champion.
Sixteen players have now qualified for the first round of the Tasmanian Snooker Championship, to be held at the Burnie Club over the weekend of August 11/12. The final will be held on the weekend 25-26th. August at the same Club.
Interclub Snooker
Works Raiders, with another 4-0 win, this time over The Flaming Devils, are now 6 points clear of Works Blue on the “A” grade ladder, Keith Coomber, Barry Glover, Harley Stebbings and Alan Armitage all won for the Raiders.
Second placed Works Blue could only manage a draw against Works Black, Peter Donati and Micheal Leslie won for Blue, David Bates and Zane Brown were Black’s winners.
Exeter Social Club defeated Launceston RSL Grey 3-1 at the Country Club, Rex Swain, Dean Wilson and Adam Bindoff won for Exeter, Roydyn Bishop was RSL’s only winner.
Works Gold had last week’s bye.

Reigning “A” Grade Premiers, Works Blue, showed that they are a serious chance to defend their title, beating Exeter Social Club 4 nil in last weeks match. They moved just one win below the ladder leaders Works Raiders..
Works Blue players, Rolf Stevenson, Hans Georgieff, John Stevenson and Peter Donati all won on the night.
Works Black drew 2 all with Works Gold, Rodney Martin and Bruce Lockley winning for Black, Gary Bjarnoe-Elliott and Frank Clark were Gold’s winners.
Launceston RSL Grey, also drew 2-2 with The Flaming Devils, Robin McEnnulty and Terry Adams scored for RSL, Heath Rainbow and Scott Kopriva winning for the Devils.
Works Raiders had last week’s bye.
In “A Reserve” Works Red continue to head the ladder, this week beating second placed Works Green 7-5, Steve Andelkovic and Graeme Purdon won for Red, Glen Johansen was Green’s only winner.
Exeter Social Club Green won 7-5 against Works Amber, and moved to outright second on the ladder, Phil Stagg and Steve Farquhar both won for Exeter, Tony Quach played very good snooker to be Amber’s only winner.
Launceston RSL White also won 7-5 against Works Navy, Sue Singline and Christine Knowles won for RSL team, Steve Collins was Navy’s winner.

A Grade ladder leaders, Works Raiders, had their third whitewash this year, defeating Works Gold 4 nil. The Raiders players Alan Armitage, Barry glover, Lionel Young and Harley Stebbings all won to move their team two games clear of Works Gold on top of the ladder.
Works Blue held third spot with a 3-1 win against the Flaming Devils, Rolf Stevenson, Hans Georgieff and Graeeme Pickett won for Blue, Josh Rainbow was the Devils only winner.
Launceston RSL Grey, who surprised everyone by dropping former Tasmanian champion Roydyn Bishop for the first time in 44 years, suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Works Black. Bruce Lockley, David Bates and Rodney Martin all won for the Black team, Robin McEnnulty was RSL’s sole winner.

In “A Reserve” Works Red continue to head the ladder, this week beating lowly RSL White 8-4, Phil Rowbottom, Peter Seaman and Louis Wong won for Red, Adrian White won for the RSL team.
Works Green beat Exeter 7-5, to move to outright second, Green’s Cor Zoon was the only winner on the night.
Works teams Amber and Navy played a 6 all draw, Damien Bushby and Peter Fraser won for Amber, Ben Conrades and Warren Hayes were Navy’s winners.

Bottom team Works Flaming Devils caused a major upset in thrashing Ladder Leader Works Raiders 3/1, whilst the big improvers Works Blue jumped into second place with a strong 3/1 win over Works Black. Exeter Social Club held off a strong challenge from Launceston RSL Grey resulting in a tense draw. Works Gold had the bye.

Works Raiders overcame successive defeats to whitewash Works Black 4/0 in their Round 8 clash, and now move 4 points clear in the A Grade competition. Works Gold played a draw with Exeter Social Club, and narrowly have second position on the Ladder over Exeter. Lton RSL Grey welcomed a much needed 3/1 win over Works Blue. Works Devils had the bye.
Works Black player David Bates (-14) was impressive in making breaks of 31, 32 and 33, but lost 2/1 to Works Raiders player Keith Coomber who made a break of 28.
