However, Works Black, which had led the competition for most of the season, faltered against bottom team Works Gold, losing 1-3 in this week's competition.

Veterans Roydyn Bishop, 2-0, Robin McEnnulty 2-1 and David Shepherd 2-0 won for Launceston RSL, Exeter's Adam Bindoff continued his winning form, beating Terry Adams 2-0 with a re-spotted black in the second frame. 

For Gold, John Fraser 2-1, John Saggers 2-1 and Bob Woods were winners, while Andrew Saltmarsh 2-0 had Blacks' only win. 

The Blue team continued its impressive late season form whitewashing the Devils 4-0 and taking their place in the four. 

Peter Donati 2-0, John Stevenson 2-0, Rolf Stevenson 2-1 and Hans Georgieff 2-0 made it four wins from the past five matches and are well placed on handicap to make a run for the title. 

David Bates (22 wins from 33 frames) and Adam Bindoff (22 from 39) lead the players rankings, from Robin McEnnulty and Roydyn Bishop with 20 wins each. 

The A grade ladder is: Launceston RSL 36, Black 34, Exeter RSL 32, Blue 30, Devils 26, Gold 22. 

In A reserve, Exeter RSL moved into the four at the expense of Navy, beating Longford RSL 7-5. Derek Peart and John Waters won for Exeter, while Greg Williams was best for Longford. 

Red beat Navy 7-5. Phil Rowbottom and Ray Smith won for Red, while John Fordham was Navy's only winner. 

Amber, second, drew with ladder- leader Green 6-6. Damien Bushby won 2-0 for Amber and George Zammit 2-0 for Green. 

The A reserve ladder is: Green 129, Amber 105, Red 104, Exeter RSL 101, Navy 99, Longford RSL 92. Best break: Damien Bushby 27. 

State team selected

THE final 22 players from the North, South and North-West competed for nine positions in the state open eightball team to join the 2010 state open singles champion Gregg Watt in the team to compete at the Australian eightball championships in Adelaide from October 19-29. 

In what was a first for many years there were no playoffs for the last position in the team, with the following nine players making the team from the round robin section of play: Cale Barrett, Callan Bisett, Jeremy McGuire, Marcus Jackson, Ricky Lee, Anthony Adams, Chris Forsyth, Sam Thurgood, Tim Wright.
