Black on top after win over Longford

WORKS Black wrapped up the Northern snooker competition minor premiership with a 3-1 win over Longford RSL.

It is 10 points clear of second and third placed teams Works Green and Works Gold, with three weeks remaining in the home and away series.

Black teammates, David Bates and Bruce Lockley, both won their matches to extend their rivalry for the consistency award.

Bates leads at this stage achieving his nine wins from 11 matches.

 

Longford RSL dropped to equal sixth on the ladder and is in danger of missing the finals but along with Works Gold and Works Navy has a second round bye to come.

Navy is sitting ninth and likely to miss the cut.

The other matches played resulted in 2-2 draws with no impact on the final six.

Eight players remain in contention for the players' consistency trophy, David Bates continues to lead with 10 wins from 12 matches played, from Lockley with 10 wins from 13 games.

Third place is held by Steven Leary with 8 wins from 11 played.

Josh Rainbow has moved to equal fourth with 8 wins from 12 played, along with Glen Johansen, Dean Wilson, Hans Georgieff and Wayne Purdon.

The annual meeting of the Northern Tasmanian Billiards and Snooker Association will be at the Launceston Working Men's Club at 6.30pm tonight.

RESULTS: Works Blue drew 2-2 with Works Navy, Hans Georgeiff (250) beat Steve Collins (280) and Peter Donati (95), beat John Fordham (280). Navy players, Ray Skinner (265) beat Michael Leslie (220) and Ben Conrads (310) with 410 points start beat Graeme Pickett (-100).

Works Green drew 2-2 with The Flaming Devils, Glen Johansen (260) beat Heath Rainbow (265), George Zammit (275) won against Andrew Rainbow (275). Devils Roydyn Bishop (140) beat Lee Morcom (285) and Josh Rainbow (300) beat Dean Wilson (255).

Works Gold and Exeter RSL drew 2-2, Steve Leary (275) beat Derek Peart (280), John Fraser (200) won on forfeit. Adam Bindoff (290), defeated Rolf Stevenson (245) and Rex Swain (285) beat Trevor Leary (200).
