Northern Billiard Championships 2012

The Northern Tasmanian Billiards Championship will be decided at the Works Club on Saturday, starting at 11.00am. Defending Champion David Bates and Graeme Pickett are odds on to meet again in the 2012 final. Bates needs to overcome Peter Donati and Pickett plays Adrian White in semi-final matches immediately preceding the final.

Both Bates and Pickett are in great form, between them they have made 5 centuries, plus 99, 97 and 93 in the current rosters.

The “A Res” billiards championship will also be concluded on Saturday, with Andrew Saltmarsh playing John Saggers and Dean Wilson playing Alan Armitage in the semi-finals, the winners playing for the A Res Championship

The ‘B Grade billiards championship will be concluded at Works next Saturday.

With just three weeks remaining in the interclub roster, RSL White looks set to win the minor premiership, last week winning 3-1 against Works Red, Wayne Purdon and Dennis Collins are in good form, along with Adrian White and Greg Williams.

The Flaming Devils had a 3-1 win over the Raiders and look set to move up to second spot, Heath Rainbow, Roydyn Bishop and Andrew Rainbow won for the Devils. Vetran Harley Stebbings won for the Raiders who have now lost three in a row and face Works Blue on Wednesday.

Works Gold kept their chances of finals alive with a 3-1 win over Works Black, John Fraser, Steve Leary and Gary Bjarnoe-Elliott winning for Gold. Terry Adams prevented a clean sweep, winning his match against Rolf Stevenson by just two points.

Works Green also scored a much needed 3-1 win against Works Navy, and are still a chance of making the five, Dean Wilson, Glen Johansen and George Zammit were Green’s winners. Phil Page scored a point for Navy, who need to beat the top team to any finals chances.

At the other end of the ladder Exeter Social Club and Works Red are locked in battle for the wooden spoon. Exeter won their third consecutive match, beating Works Blue 3-1 and moved three points above Red. Derek Peart took full advantage of 400 points start against Graeme Pickett who made a 148 break but couldn’t make up the difference. Rex Swain and Adam Bindoff (forfeit) also scored for Exeter.

RSL White’s Dennis Collins leads the player rankings, on 76.92% followed closely by Harley Stebbings 72.72%, Lionel Young and Ben Conrades both on 70%.  John Saggers  4 from 4 played, Ethan Brown 7 wins from 8 played, Zane Brown 6 from 7 played, Scott Kopriva 4 from 5 have not played enough games to qualify.

Northern 8ball: Teams had strong wins against Devonport on Sunday, the Open team won 37-28 and the B Team winning 45-20. Best players: Open Bradley Grant, B Team Greg Cooper.

Rex Swain was returned as President of the Northern Tasmanian Billiards & Snooker Association at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday the 15th. February, Gary Bakker was elected Vice President, Andrew Saltmarsh and John Fraser retained their positions of Secretary and Treasured respectively. Gary Bjarnoe-Elliott joined the committee along with returned sitting members, Heath rainbow, Lee Morcom, Adrian White, John Fordham and Lloyd Rogers.
